A few days ago I went to AC Moore to buy some art supplies and wanted to use a coupon and my discount card to get points on it as well. While cashing out several of the items that I was purchasing were already on sale yet they did not ring up on sale.
The manager agreed they should have so she inputted the correct price. The young girl cashier appeared to have deleted the original full retail price however I thought she had deleted both the retail and sale price. So when the total was given I asked her if she was sure that the total was correct because it seemed to be way to low by about $30. She insisted that it was correct. So rather than wasting any more time and holding up the line I went out to my car and calculated what I had in the bag and what she actually charged me. Sure enough they shorted themselves about $30 worth of stuff.
As my wife and I have always taught our children by example I told my daughter who had been waiting in the car that I'm going back into the store and speak with the manager and do my best to not get this young girl in any trouble but at the same time I can't accept this kind of a windfall.
So I went back in spoke to the manager and showed her how I had not been charged as well as explained how confusing the screen looked to both the cashier and myself as it did appear to have doubled the sales.
The manager was pretty much speechless and said she can't remember the last time anyone came back in to get charged more if it was our mistake. I told her the universe has a way of balancing itself and aside from that it simply is dishonorable and will only lead to a bad painting...as I chuckled with her a bit.
She charged me the correct amount and then even gave me some extra points on my card. That alone would have been a great Karma return but it did not stop there.
The next day I planned to return with my special 60% off coupon to purchase a compressor for airbrush retail $319. I was looking forward to using the coupon as it would bring my price to about $130 tax and such. well the same manager was there and she unlocked the case and gave me the compressor.
I went to ring it up and low and behold it came up $49.95..... in shock I stated that she probably needs to call her manager for a price check since that is nearly 80% off and can't be correct. These compressors run at least $250 all day long even on Ebay.
So the manager scanned the item and again it came up $49.95 . She told me there was nothing she could do about it and she has no choice but to charge me a sale price of $49.95. She said I guess your honesty paid off to the tune of $275 dollars in savings only one day later.
What a great testimony to my children and to anyone that what goes around will come around and sometimes ten fold!

New Art work image line-up for 2011
After 8 years of painting 12 images of Dragons for TideMarks Dragon calendar I am getting a break. Barnes and Noble as well as Borders both announced the extreme financial problems the 2 are having to all Calendar publishers this year and stated that they will only be taking on the “lowest possible price wholesale and only a couple of titles in these genre’s. Basically unless you sell to them below cost or have a pop culture hit like Twilight they are not going to stock the calendar as Tidemark expressed to me.
Barnes and Noble CEO was quoted a few months back claiming the reason for their tough financial condition was their loss of the market share from the Nooks failure to compete against the Kindle as well as WallMarts $8.99 top ten best sellers. They just can’t compete with these products. They also attempted to sell to Amazon but that failes as well. Borders has been flat for several years so they were already not ordering calendars from most vendors
So as one door closed the next week another opened. I was contacted by the largest EU calendar company to license 12 Dragon images for their calendar. The best part about this deal is I don’t have to paint any new Dragons for it.
I will finally be able to paint other subjects that have been on my back burner for nearly a decade such as: Angels, fallen Angels, Gargoyles, The headless Horseman from Sleepy hallow, Vampire and Gothic horror, lots more females and of course fey folks and myths like Griffin and Phoenix.
I am currently finishing up the four horseman of the apocalypse in a unique style for a EU game company ( I can’t mention as of yet) and a few private painting commissions as well. Also a really unique approach introducing a new major painting in the works in the Steampunk genre
My collectors see my work at conventions, on my website www.edbeardjr.com and those who come into my booth will be in for a far more diverse selection of art this year!
I am seriously pumped!
back to the studio!

The techniques include lessons on using a variety of different pencil hardnesses as well as the Tortillion paper stumps to blend with. Check them out at the following links:
